How to Restore or Change the Color of Your Grout
The use of tile walls in a bathroom is both decorative and utilitarian.
Nothing looks brighter or more attractive then a new tile wall with its
bright white grout setting off the smooth tile surface. However, as time
goes by, the look soon tarnishes and the wall begins to look dull and dingy.
The tile is still lustrous, but the grout has discolored.
Until recently, the situation was virtually hopeless, as no amount of
cleaning and scrubbing could alter the situation. Over the years many products
have appeared on the market claiming to bring the grout back to a like-new
condition. All have failed, since they were merely cleaners, attempting
to reverse a natural aging process which is normal, if not acceptable, for
grout.
Now there is a means of restoring the original bright white look to aging,
discolored wall grout. It is a simple process which creates a new non-porous
surface over the old discolored grout. Super-Tek Grout Stain is a new acrylic
polymer coating, especially formulated to bond only to the wall grout, and
not to the surrounding tile.
Application of Grout Stain is a simple process. After the wall is cleaned
with a non-filming cleaner, such as Super-Tek Clean-N-Rinse, any loose grout
is removed and then repaired. Grout Stain is then applied with a foam paintbrush
over the existing discolored grout. Work on one small area and remove any
excess Grout Stain with a damp sponge or rag. Then proceed to the next area,
applying Grout Stain and finishing off each area before proceeding on to
the next one.
The results are amazing, as many hotels and other industrial users have
learned. Not only is the grout restored to a like-new appearance, but future
maintenance is much easier. The newly created surface will not age as the
grout will, nor will it accumulate dirt and soap scum since it is not as
porous as grout is.
